ChromeOS Device Selector

ChromeOS Device Selector

Experience Design
Project Overview
I was fortunate enough to be put onto a project in collaboration with Google for their Chrome OS Device Selector. This wizard housed in an iframe was shared across Google partners who could alter the CSS to match their branding. Our responsibility was to design, develop, and maintain as needed.

A subtle nudge

• I designed the first step of the selector to bring attention to the ChromeOS Flex by housing the link right above the continue button. This would catch the user's attention but still allow them to continue on the journey easily and without intrusion.

• The remaining steps would house the ChromeOS Flex link in the bottom right if user's decided on that route later in the steps.

Boosting scan-ability

• Drop-off from the steps was an area of concern for Google so I began to work in ways, along with their updated way finding guide, on how to increase engagement. Unfortunately, I was unable to test any of the flows.

• Ultimately I reduced cognitive load and increase scan-ability by incorporating bullet points with shorter descriptions1. Future iterations would be from Google's way-finding guide.

Key Takeaways
1. Google offers a free "lite" version of their OS called ChromeOS Flex that can be installed on a users current device. With drop off on the wizard they wanted to grab user's attention for Flex without taking away from the selector flow.

2. When I came on to the project there was no design artifacts for the current design. I recreated the current, live design in Figma with a design system so that future adaptations and improvements were streamlined.
